The Magdalene Sisters (2002)

A period drama that tells the story of four women who are incarcerated in a Magdalene Asylum in Ireland during the 1960’s. Magdalene Asylums detained women (typically against their will, and under harsh conditions) abandoned by their families who were deemed too sexually promiscuous or were sex workers. The Magdalene Sisters is rated 90% fresh on This one should be made available at some point this month, but the date is currently unclear.

Two Days, One Night (2014)

A Belgian-French-Italian film about a mother who, following a nervous breakdown, has to convince her co-workers to turn down their bonuses they took to cover her shifts so she can remain employed. A thoughtful, compassionate film, it was loved by critics and holds a 97% fresh rating on

A Most Wanted Man (2014)

A well-received spy thriller starring Philip Seymour Hoffman, Rachel McAdams, and Robin Wright. 88% fresh on

Transformers: Age of Extinction (2014)

Yet another Transformers movie, this one didn’t do so well ratings-wise. If you were planning to watch it, now’s your chance to check it out on Netflix.


Pussy Riot: A Punk Prayer (2013)

An HBO documentary about Russian feminist anti-Putin punk group Pussy Riot and their imprisonment following a protest of the Russian Orthodox Church’s support of Putin during his campaign.

Antarctica: A Year on Ice (2014)

This visually stunning documentary spans one year at two different research bases in Antarctica.

What Happened, Miss Simone? (2015)

A Netflix documentary about singer, pianist, and civil rights activist Nina Simone. Using a combination of previously unseen archival footage and interviews with Nina’s children & loved ones, the film manages to capture Simone’s glory.
