Kim Kardashian, Kanye West Suing YouTube Founder Over Leaked Engagement Video
It’s no secret that Kanye West proposed to Kim Kardashian. It was a private event, but they certainly had a lot of people in attendance, not to mention the live orchestra. The reason that the internet has a leaked video from the ceremony is because YouTube co-founder Chad Hurley took video clips and posted them to his new website, MixBit, in an effort to attract attention to it.
The proposal “event” took place in San Francisco at AT&T Park. Guests were given invites and we’re led to believe that Kim thought this was a birthday celebration (it was her 33rd birthday). Chad Hurley was not actually invited, but he instead tagged along with another guest and was permitted entry. While inside, he took videos of Kanye’s proposal to Kim. To say this was a grand proposal is an understatement. There was a 50-piece grand orchestra positioned on the field, and “PLEEEASE MARRY MEEE!!!” was displayed on the jumbo-tron. Yes, there were actually that many e’s.
Kim’s last engagement ring from NBA player Kris Humpries is commonly stated to have been 20.5 carats consisting of an emerald-cut diamond, but it’s more accurate to describe it as a 16.21-carat emerald-cut diamond in the center with two 1.8-carat diamonds on the sides. The ring was from Lorraine Schwartz, like Kanye’s, and was reported to be valued at around 2 million dollars at the time of the initial sale, although only weeks ago Humphries auctioned it off for 750 thousand dollars.
Kanye gave Kim a 15-carat flawless cushion-cut diamond from Lorraine Schwartz. It is reported that Kanye and Lorraine collaborated to create the perfect ring. Kanye wanted the diamond to appear like it was floating on Kim’s finger, rather than clearly affixed to a band.
Kim’s ring from Kanye stands on its own without any extra diamonds. With diamonds of those large sizes, that results in a more elegant look. Kanye’s diamond is flawless, and as he had a big hand in designing the ring and its floating appearance, it is truly unique.
It’s likely that the Kardashian family will have the proposal footage on an episode of their reality show, Keeping Up With The Kardashians, but we don’t think Kim or the family were expecting one of their guests to leak personal footage ahead of schedule. Now, about Chad Hurley and the lawsuit…
