Best Glitter Bombs of All Time–Celebrities & Politicians
The glitter bomb is used primarily by LGBTQ activists and is typically targeted at politicians or media figures. The activist(s) will throw/dump/sprinkle some glitter while saying something along with the glittery attack. Proponents of marriage equality and for LGBTQ rights do this mostly to politicians who say some really messed up things about LGBTQ people. Queer and trans activists have also glitter bombed prominent mainstream gay rights figures like Dan Savage for expressing transphobic, racist, or misogynistic ideas. Apparently now there is a risk of up to six months of jail time and a thousand dollar fine for glitter bombing a politician. Be careful, glitter bombers! Below we revisit some of the best glitter bombs.
A common target of glitter bombs, this politician opposed same-sex marriage despite having a sister who is a lesbian and an LGBT advocate. He has claimed it would threaten the sanctity of marriage. He’s also been known for having multiple affairs and being divorced more than once. Seems very hypocritical. Lately, he’s been thinking that it seems like marriage might change in the future despite his prior efforts. Pretty sure his efforts have already changed his own marriages from the traditional model he claims to espouse.
Mitt Romney (AKA Mittens)
Romney has a very mixed record on pretty much every issue. Probably because he’s a republican in a liberal state, who then tried to run in the extremely polarized national political environment. He signed on to NOM’s opposition to same-sex marriage when he ran for president, and was a frequent target of glitter bombs.
Santorum has said a lot of foul things about LGBT people. He frequently compares homosexuality to pedophilia and other non-consensual acts. He does not think the constitution guarantees privacy, and thus has supported anti-sodomy laws. He’s had a number of other controversial stances, and it’s really no surprise he is one of the most common glitter bomb targets.
