11 Odd Celebrity Insurance Policies—From Alien Abduction to Mustache Insurance
Merv Hughes’s Mustache
Ah, the $300,000 mustache! Merv Hughes is a well known Australian cricket player. Well, former cricket player. He was an excellent player, and was known for a variety of peculiarities. Fans would often mimic his warm up routine behind him while he was going through the motions. He would make memorable displays of affection for his team members, earning him the nickname “fruitfly.” He was known for consuming alcohol and food in excess, and perhaps the most memorable feature of his was his enormous and bushy handlebar mustache. Hughes found his mustache to be so important to his notoriety that he had it insured for £200,000, which was equivalent to over $300,000, except that was more than 20 years ago. Quite the expensive mustache in today’s currency.
Heidi Klum’s Legs
This one isn’t too surprising, except for one little oddity. Heidi Klum’s legs were once insured for $2.2 million, as they’re a vital part of her career and one of the reasons she is the supermodel that we all know. The weird part? One is insured for more than the other; $1.2 million and $1 million. The reason for this is because one of her legs has a small scar, so it is apparently worth $200,000 less than the unscarred version. Too bad they weren’t insured before she got that $200,000 scar!
Dolly Parton’s Chest
Well, of all the things Dolly Parton could have insured, this one isn’t a particularly surprising choice. One of the best selling country singers of all time, and one of the best selling artists overall, she’s known for her distinctive voice. And also her look, part of which including her very large chest size. She has turned down multiple offers to appear in Playboy, though she did appear in the bunny suit on the cover of the October 1978 issue. Each breast is allegedly insured for $300,000 each, or $600,000 for the set. She doesn’t seem to mind being known partly for her chest-size, as she believes in the old “all press is good press,” sort of thing. Lately, she seems to be focusing much more on philanthropy.
America Ferrera’s Smile
America Ferrera got a big break when she was cast to star in Ugly Betty. She was a spokesperson for Aquafresh’s whitening White Trays as her smile is flawlessly white and her teeth are perfectly straight. Aquafresh insured her smile for $10,000,000, and the insurance also covers dental work to keep her smile well maintained. Apparently there is now a 10 million dollar smile.
