Nintendo E3 Highlights: New Game Highlights for Wii U & Nintendo DS
Super Smash Bros for Wii U & Nintendo DS
So exciting! The new Super Smash Bros. game will be released for both Nintendo DS & Wii U sometime in 2014. The 3DS version features black outlines around the characters so you can see them from a greater distance, and the Wii U version will have HD graphics. It seems the two different platform versions will have different stages available, so it is unclear if you will be able to play online against people with both versions or only your own. Information is still limited, but new characters have already been introduced.
Megaman arrives to the series, sporting various abilities from bosses across the many games and his token Mega Buster. Villager from Animal Crossing makes his debut, and he brings all of his assorted collected junk with him. He fights with slingshots, axes, shovels, trees, and can even collect opponents’ projectile attacks. An unexpected new arrival is the Wii Fit Trainer. She has a very acrobatic, agile move-set and has a variety of physical attacks.
The Final Smash will return, as we got a glimpse of the new Wii Fit Trainer’s colorful smash and Samus’s Ion cannon. Returning characters announced so far: Mario, Bowser, Donkey Kong, Samus, Star Fox, Link, Pit from Kid Icarus, Kirby, and Pikachu! Hopefully we’ll see some more favorites soon. And I really hope we hear about an improved online mode. Fingers crossed! Check out the game-play video below:
Pokémon X & Y
Okay, most importantly, there is a new type of pokémon introduced: fairy! Fairy type is super effective against dragons. This means that Jigglypuff counters Dragonite. Awesome! Evee’s new evolution, Slyveon, is a fairy type.
Pokémon X & Y will release to the Nintendo 3DS on October 12th of 2013. A new feature they’re introducing is “Pokémon-Amie,” which will allow you to interact with your pokémon more directly by feeding and petting them using the touch screen. Another new feature is the player search function (PSS), which will allow players to search for one another locally and also over wi-fi. It seems like you’ll be able to pass by players while carrying your DS, and have them show up as acquaintances in game.
Super Mario 3D World
Oh. My. God. Cats have invaded Mario! The new power-up suit is a cat-suit that lets Mario and friends climb, scratch, and scamper about. It also gives them cat ears and a tail. Do you really need to know anything else? Just take my money.
This 3D mario isn’t as exploring-centric as Mario 64 was; it is more linear in its obstacle course. But it is indeed 3D, not a side-scroller, and has a lot of enticing game-play. Of special note is that now 4 players can play together in a co-op mode featuring Mario, Luigi, Toad, and Peach. Mario is a balanced character, Luigi jumps high, Peach can hover, and Toad runs faster than the others. As a fan of multiplayer, I’m interested to see how fun it is in a 3D Mario game. Mario 3D World has a release date of December 2013 for the Wii U.
